Who’s idea was this, anyway?


Jim Brendle and his experienced race staff organized the inaugural running of the Wild Rogue Relay in June, 2013. Meet the race staff:


Jim Brendle – Race Director
Jim is the owner of Sourwood Running which designs, organizes, and administers The Smoky Mountain Relay in Western North Carolina and The Wild Rogue Relay. Jim has participated in numerous marathons and relays across the country and has a real passion for the overnight relay. Jim moved to the Rogue Valley in 1988 to work as a Pharmaceutical Representative.

Sydney Smedley – Assistant Race Director
Sydney is a wife, mother and dance instructor. She has helped participants with registration in The Smoky Mountain Relay. Sydney Captained a team in this past years WRR. Because of her willingness to help with the event we are able to allow teams to make substitutions without paying fees.

Tyler Brendle- Course Management
Tyler Brendle works as a outside Sales Rep for ATT. He studied Business at Southern Oregon University where for his internship he proved to be a very strong asset to the SMR. We are grateful for Tyler (the hardest working employee on the course) for his dedication to our family and this event. He is also getting to be a pretty good runner.

Skyler Smedley – Course Management and Tech Support
Skyler provides brain power for the operation supplying mathematical formulas that help us with permits and starting times. He also plays a critical role in creating (so far) 2 of the greatest grandchildren on Earth! Skyler works as an Administrator for Practice Financial Group in Jacksonville.

Julie Brendle- Chief Financial Officer, Registration and Sponsorship
Julie has taken on the registration and sponsorship duties for our race. She also provides logistical and emotional support to the rest of the assistant race directors and staff. She is a master with QuickBooks and is constantly reining us in.

Teri Smith – Communications and Technical Advisor
Teri works on the social media and marketing presence of the race, including the photography and website design. She also advises on race operations.

Daniel Ethridge – Course Director
Daniel is a wildlife biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Daniel is our expert on the course and the type of critters we might encounter. He is very busy during the event coordinating signage and lighting on the course.

Wayne Marthaller – Board Member
Wayne is a retired air force pilot who is known throughout the West for his skills in assisting tri-athletes during their swimming legs. While Wayne has his own heating and air conditioning business, he also finds time to work as an instructor and trainer for Superior Athletic Club.

Jodi Marthaller – Board Member
Jodi currently works as a trainer at Superior Athletic Club, Southern Oregon University and Jackson County Parks and Recreation. Jodi has won many Triathlons and Iron Man competitions. She has also been recognized as a National winner in fitness model competitions. Jodi also helped us with the layout of the course suggesting Seattle Bar as the start.
